Soundproof Flooring Solutions by Buildmatic – Achieving optimal floor soundproofing starts with reducing the transfer of impact noise—the kind created by footsteps, moving furniture, or dropped objects. The most effective approach is to incorporate a cushioned isolation layer within the floor build-up, which absorbs impact vibrations before they travel into the building structure. High-performance systems, such as floating floor soundproofing, work by creating a separation between the walking surface and the structural floor, significantly reducing vibration transmission.
For timber floors, we also address the problem of sound amplifying within the joist cavity by installing acoustic mineral wool insulation between joists. This prevents the cavity from acting like a sound drum and improves both impact and airborne sound control.
In addition, adding high-mass layers to the floor build-up creates a physical barrier to block sound waves—much like a thick concrete slab naturally resists more noise than a thin timber sheet. By combining different types of mass, we can target a wider range of sound frequencies for more comprehensive soundproofing.
